Traditionally, the problem is modeled as a one-period Bayesian game, where the incomplete information about the buyers’ preferences is handled with some subjective probability distribution. Here we suggest an iterative online method to solve the problem. We show that, when the buyers behave myopically, the seller can learn the optimal tariff by selling the product repeatedly. In a practical modification of the method, the seller offers linear tariffs and adjusts them until optimality is reached. The adjustment can be seen as gradient adjustment, and it can be done with limited information and so that it benefits both the seller and the buyers. Our method uses special features of the problem and it is easily implementable. 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Dynamic pricing when consumers are strategic: Analysis of a posted pricing scheme
We study dynamic pricing policies for a monopolist selling perishable products over a finite time horizon to buyers who are strategic. Buyers are strategic in the sense that they anticipate the firm’s pricing policies. We are interested in situations in which auctions are not feasible and in which it is costly to change prices. We begin by showing that unless strategic buyers expect shortages d...
متن کاملNumerical quasilinearization scheme for the integral equation form of the Blasius equation
The method of quasilinearization is an effective tool to solve nonlinear equations when some conditions on the nonlinear term of the problem are satisfied. When the conditions hold, applying this technique gives two sequences of coupled linear equations and the solutions of these linear equations are quadratically convergent to the solution o...
متن کاملOptimal pricing and ordering policies for perishable products under advance-cash-credit payment scheme
Recently, market globalization and competition have forced companies to find alternative means to boost sales and revenue. The use of the cash flow is increasingly becoming a viable alternative for managers to improve their company’s profitability in a supply chain. In today’s business transactions, a supplier usually asks a manufacturer to pay via the advance-cash-credit (ACC) payment scheme i...
متن کاملOptimal Iterative Pricing with Positive Network Externalities
In this paper, we study optimal pricing for revenue maximization in the presence of positive network externalities. In our model, the value of a digital good for a buyer is a function of the set of buyers who have already bought the item. In this setting, a buyer’s decision to buy an item depends on the price of the item as well as the set of other buyers that own the item. The revenue maximiza...

In this setting, a decision to buy an item depends on its price and also on the set of other buyers that have already owned that item. The revenue m...
